I'm a Marvelette!

Well, I know I haven't written anything in a while, but now I have a lot to say...I just became a member of the world renowned Marvelettes! Original member Katherine Anderson Schaffner wanted to start a new generation of Marvelettes to keep her legacy in motion, and I was chosen to be a part of it. Needless to say, it is truly an honor, and I am humbled by this opportunity.
On August 5th 2017, we will be performing in Maumee, Ohio at the Maumee Theatre, and starting September 15th, we will be doing a 10 day tour in the UK...after that, the sky's the limit!
We have been rehearsing all summer, and performing at events like the 5th Annual R&B Hall of Fame Awards Show which happened June 11th 2017 at Detroit's Music Hall.
Being a teacher, I have always told my students to follow their dreams and to do what makes them happy, and I am grateful to be a living testimony of my own words to them. It's important to allow children to see examples of what is possible for them. Personally, this is a tremendous milestone for me and my career. I have always been a performing musician, gigging whenever possible, but my day job has mostly been in the forefront. I would tell my students about all the experiences I have had as a musician, and all of the celebrities that I have met along the way. Then one day, a student said to me, "Ms. Buford, why aren't YOU famous?". I didn't know how to answer that. Her question made me think about my journey, and where I was at the that time. Sometimes we all get trapped in habit. We do what is necessary to make a living, but it may lose sight of our dreams and goals. I have been a teacher most of my professional life, and education has been and still is very good to me, but my dream has always been entertainment. Now, I have a chance to bring more of my dream to fruition. The best part is being able to show my students what's possible through example.
